My son was continually leaving his plastic containers in the school playground at snack and lunchtime, so I wanted something that he could place into his pocket and bring home.
I had also fallen prey to the easy appeal of ziplock bags.
With 3 children at school I pack around 600 lunches per year. Each lunchbox contained around 5 plastic bags
(1 X sandwich, 1 X popcorn, 1 X muffin, 1 X dried fruit or carrot sticks and 1 X snakatas or small biscuits).
With each bag costing approximately 5 cents each, I was spending $150 per year and contributing to landfill.
Why not adopt a waste free lunch principle, stop buying single use plastic bags or cling wrap and switch to wraps and packs. They will save you money and help the environment.
